Gresley FC vs Coton Green

The Reserves entertained Coton Green Reserves on a drying bobbly Moat Ground pitch and it proved to be a close game as expected.

Gresley had Max Atkin return between the posts, Callum Porter come in at left back, Lucas Harrison started in the midfield alongside Zack Hill and Sam Hammerton came back into the starting eleven.

The home side started quite brightly getting in behind the Coton defence but without creating a clear cut chance.

After that opening, Coton came into the game and were more than matching Gresley but neither side were creating many openings in a scrappy spell of the game.

The first decent shot of the game opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Dutton and Hughes won the ball back on the halfway line before finding Hammerton inside the box, who spun and drove the ball high above the helpless keeper and into the top corner.

The lead didn't last long though as Coton cut through the home defence easily and Alex Pott raced clear and slotted neatly past Max Atkin.

Gresley regained the lead in the 40th minute when Hughes' cross from the right wasn't dealt with by a defender and Hammerton again was on hand to fire home this time with a neat low finish into the bottom corner.

Again Coton hit back soon after with almost the last kick of the half, some poor defending on the edge of the box alowed the ball to spill loose and a Coton striker seized on the loose ball only to be tripped by Atkin, substitute
Edwards calmly rolled the resulting spotkick home.

After the break, Gresley played at a slightly raised tempo and forced Coton deeper and deeper, with Kane Lee, Josh Dutton and Sam Hammerton all going close to restoring the lead, but were made to wait till the 70th minute when Kane Lee raced forward on the right and pulled the ball back to the waiting Dutton who flashed the ball into the far corner.

In the remaining minutes Coton tried to grab a point and forced Gresley back but this time the Moatmen's defence proved stronger in order to grab a important three points.
