Final game for Gresley Rovers first team

Ken went on to play for Milwall & Norwich City

He later returned to Ibstock during the war and was a coal miner (which affected his lungs & put an end to his footballing career) although he made a few guest appearances for Leicester and played for Ibstock Colliery for many years.

A Leicestershire talent City had missed. Ken (Frederick Charles Kendall was born in Ibstock and died also in Ibstock on 27th October 1977.

He was at the end of his career when he was called up for a quartet of inside-forward outings in 1940-41, and one as emergency centre-half in the final game of 1942-43.

A product of Ibstock Penistone Rovers and Gresley Rovers, Ken had joined Norwich City in November 1930, Millwall in August 1936, Notts County in January 1938, and Southern League Colchester United in May 1939.

The war years also saw him turning out for Ibstock Colliery and Pegsons (and once, at Filbert Street, for an under-strength Spurs), before he became player-manager back at Ibstock PR.

Kenís brother Les had been a City reserve trialist from Ibstock PR in March 1933; while another brother, George, played League football for Millwall, Forest and Wrexham. (City WW2: 5 apps).
