Gaz Norton's Reserve team news
Gaz Norton

Gaz Norton

I write these notes just after our 1st defeat of the season at the hands of Hinckley United Reserves here at the Moat Ground last Saturday.
The defeat was disappointing but even more so when we heard that league leaders Boldmere St Michaels had also suffered their 1st defeat of the season at the hands of our opponents of today, Shepshed Dynamo.

Even though we lost, I felt we did more than enough to win the game. In fact we have played much worse than that this season and won games. A scrappy 1st half performance saw Mycey Pryce equalise after Hinckley had taken the lead through Paul Hunter. An improved 2nd half saw us create a lot of chances and in particular Matt Moran’s influence turned the game Gresley’s way. However after 2 efforts Gresley efforts cleared off the line and numerous other chances wasted Hinckley grabbed the points after scoring through Neil Day late in the game.

A week last Wednesday, we won at Mickleover Sports in a scrappy encounter in the Derbyshire Cup. I was unable to be at the game due to overseas work commitments but was constantly on the phone with the chairman during the game and was very impressed with his commentating skills. Watch out Andy Gray! The game was a very scrappy and physical affair but in the end the lads came through 3-2 after extra time. A Mat Moran penalty, an own goal and an extra time winner from Mycey Pryce were enough to see us home. Thanks to my Assistant, Simon Van De Brouke who took charge of the team for the night.

We’ve just taken delivery of new Tracksuits courtesy of sponsorship from my employers Bombardier Transportation who have sites in Barton where the Virgin Train servicing facility in situated and Derby where they make rolling stock and Passenger Trains. Bombardier is the world’s biggest manufacturer of Trains and also manufactures Aeroplanes. Our thanks go to them and indeed to the Reserve teams main sponsor McVities for their much-valued support.

We entertain Rushall Olympic at the Moat Ground next Saturday so if your not going on the long trip to Weston to watch the 1st team please come and give us your support, you will be made most welcome.
