Boss asks for better attitudes
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood is predicting a hard time for the holders in tomorrow’s Derbyshire Senior Cup battle at Long Eaton United’s Grange Park.
Northwood admits that he will be stepping onto new and strange territory as he leads his troops into battle tomorrow.

But he does have the advantage of some local knowledge – three Moat Ground players live within a stone’s throw of the United ground.

And striker Paul Acklam midfielder Neil Lovell and injured defender Martin Dick have all confirmed Northwood’s assessment of Long Eaton: they are a tough, physical side who are sure to give Gresley a hard time tomorrow.

“They’ve had a couple of good results recently but I’m happy to be going there,” said Northwood last night. But we’ve won it twice on the trot and we’re there to defend it. If we can produce our best form I’ll be looking forward to the next round. I’m sure they’ll be saying we’re the side to beat.

“They’re physical and tough but we’ll be going there to play. I’m a big believer that football comes out on top and that policy has paid off for us.”

Nonetheless, Northwood will be looking for an improved attitude from the Banks’s League leaders tomorrow.

“They played as if they had a divine right to win a Tipton last week and if we carry on going out with that attitude somebody will turn us over, which we obviously don’t want. Steve Dolby had a talk with the players at training on Tuesday and we’ll be looking for everyone to give 100 per cent tomorrow.”
