Moat Ground faults
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers officials last night expressed their dismay at a ten-point list of faults which cost them promotion to the Beazer Homes League.
Committee members at the Moat Ground think the League should have given the chance to put right relatively minor improvements instead of promoting RC Warwick from the Midland Combination.

And Gresley believe they have gathered indisputable evidence that Warwick’s ground does not match up to theirs.

Secretary Peter Jenkinson said: “ We accept the league’s policy of grading ‘as seen.’ What we cannot understand is how Warwick were allowed in with a stand that wasn’t built at the time of inspection and floodlights that weren’t connected.

“Overall, we are disappointed with the grading inspector’s report.”

Rovers, however, do not intend to make a formal protest. Instead they will press ahead with improvements in the hope of securing promotion in a year’s time.

This work will involve a slight reduction in the size of the playing area, so that the distance between the edge of the pitch and the perimeter barrier meet a minimum standard.

Excessive pitch depressions and undulations referred to in the Beazer report have been already been dealt with and repairs to the boundary wall had already been earmarked, as had an increase of the number of seats to the required minimum of 240 seats.

Rovers must also install a ‘cage’ giving players direct access from the dressing rooms to the pitch. Other minor work, mainly of decorative nature, also need to be carried out.
