Gresley plan big shake-up

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood plans further transfusion of new faces in the wake of Saturday’s dismal FA Cup defeat at Hinckley Town.
Northwood clinched the signature of 30-year-old former Atherstone United centre half Martin Haskins on Saturday and plans to speak to two strikers – Oldbury United’s Tracey Norton and Shepshed Charterhouse’s Paul Acklam – yesterday, with a view to signing one or both.

But Northwood defended his side’s recent poor record, saying: “Two defeats don’t make a season. I obviously sympathise with the supporters. Confidence is low at the moment and a minority of fans are having a go at me. If I was doing nothing about it they would have something to complain about. But I got home at 8.10 on Saturday night and at 8.15 I was on the phone talking to a player.

“It’s not the majority of fans who are complaining, it’s just a few. But there are always supporters like that. As good as Brain Clough is you still get supporters calling for his head. I don’t think Gresley are good enough at the moment but will get it right. And I’ve got to do it quickly because we need league points.”

Northwood gets a speedy opportunity to do just that. Tipton Town visit the Moat Ground tomorrow with Haskins certain to make his debut.
