Gresley snap up Fearn

Midfield maestro Graham Fearn last night agreed to join Gresley Rovers – because he thinks they are going places.
The 30-year-old Branston depot worker, whose career began with Burton Albion a decade ago, believes he can use his vast experience to help Gresley fulfil a burning ambition.

Fearn, who put pen to paper tonight said today: “After listening to manager Frank Northwood and seeing the quality he’s already got at the Moat Ground, I think I can help Gresley to win the Banks’s League title and promotion to the Southern League. It was a tough decision to make because I had offers from clubs in a higher level of football. In the end, though, it was a combination of Gresley’s potential and the fact that travelling has become a real bugbear that helped make up my mind.”

Northwood said: “Graham’s a talented lad who’s played Conference football. I’m sure he’ll be a real asset. He feels he’s joining a club capable of winning something – and I would like to think he’s right.”

Fearn, whose travels have also taken him to Stafford, Shepshed, Bedworth and, most recently, Nuneaton, goes straight into Rovers’ team for tonight’s friendly at Atherstone (7.30pm).

And on Saturday he makes a sentimental journey back to Eton Park when Rovers take on Albion in the Johnson Cup.
