Sutton Pre-Match News
Gresley Rovers enter the last eight games of the season knowing that as things stand, they are in a mini 3 team league to avoid relegation back to step 5 next season. Rovers are competing with fellow strugglers AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Rugby Town to avoid the bottom 2 relegation spots come the end of the campaign.

Rovers hard earned point last week at Coleshill was enough to lift them off the bottom of the table at the expense of Rushden and ensure that, for the moment at least, survival from relegation is in their own hands. That said there are sure to be a few more twists and turns and we head into the home straight of the season with still lots of football to play for all teams involved.

Gresley will have to be at their best if they are to get anything from tomorrow’s Moat Ground encounter against Sutton Coldfield Town (3pm kick off).

When the sides last met at the start of December Sutton Coldfield put 7 past Rovers in a ruthless display of finishing that emphasized the gulf in class between the two sides that afternoon. Since then, 9th placed Sutton have dropped away from the race from the play-off places and current sit 11 points of 5th placed Hinckley Leicester Road who currently occupy the last play-off spot.

In squad news Rovers are boosted by the return of utility player Martyn Smyth and striker Jenson Cooper who both missed out last week.

Harley Kozluck who impressed on his debut at full back last week is also named in the squad but central midfielder James Matthew’s who was due to be with us for a few games on dual forms from Shirebrook looks to be unavailable having been named in his parent team’s squad for tomorrow.

Rovers’ manager Marc Strzyzewski is sweating on the fitness of Burton Albion loanee Charlie Knowles who has not trained with the Brewers this week due to injury. Winger Knowles has impressed since joining the club on a work experience loan and will be a big miss should he not be able to be involved this weekend.

Rovers next game is also at home when they face Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday evening at the Moat Ground, 7.45pm kick off.
