Jamie Moves Back To Heanor
Jamie Sleigh

Striker Jamie Sleigh will be leaving the club to rejoin former club Heanor Town.

Rovers manager Marc Strzyzewski told the club’s website today, "Heanor Town put seven days in for Jamie on Saturday and he informed me today that he wanted to rejoin them so we won’t stand in his way".

He added: "Jamie is another player we have inherited from when we came into the club and unfortunately he feels it’s time for him to move back to Heanor.
Jamie shared his views with me which included wanting to get a buzz back in his football. He feels this has been missing for a while and that a move back with his mates and perhaps away from the pressure of having a relegation battle on his shoulders will do that. When someone carry’s this mindset into their football it will always play a part in their performance levels so it would be wrong for me to stand in Jamie's way for such reasons and as such, we waived the required 7 days notice and we wish him all the best back at Heanor. It’s a real shame as we wanted nothing more than Jamie be the prolific goal scorer at step 4 that he has been at Step 5.

He continued: "In terms of bringing someone new in up front we will be doing just that and have been working on one or two options over the last week or so. We were already looking for more attacking fire power so nothing changes on that front and within the camp we will be working harder than ever to weigh in with goals to get the points we need to avoid relegation".

Sleigh, who joined the club in the summer as one of former manager Carl Abbotts signings, wished the club all the best moving forward commenting: “I’m frustrated that things haven’t worked out for me at Gresley Rovers. The supporters here are excellent, and the board members have been great to me since coming in and it’s a shame I wasn’t able to give them everything I know I can in terms of performances and goals. I’ve always wanted to enjoy my football and unfortunately haven’t enjoyed it over the last couple of months or so. I’d like to thank everyone connected with the club and particularly Gaz and Abbo who have been interested in signing me over the last few years and I can only apologise that my time at the Moat ground hasn’t worked out as I hoped it would.”
