Gaz Norton's Reserve Team News
I write these notes frustrated after just learning that we have had yet another fixture called off, this time a Trophy fixture away to Highgate (called off for the 3rd time on Thurs).
The only consolation is it was Valentines day so I didn’t get the grief I was expecting from the misses). This latest postponement means that we have only had 3 games since the turn of the year which is not only frustrating for the lads but also Simon and I.

We have a number of trialists and also one or two of our Youth Team players who we have been trying to get involved to have a look at but obviously it has been difficult to do so due to the poor recent weather conditions resulting in these postponements.

One Youth Team player who we have had the opportunity to look at is Edwin Walker. I have watched Edwin a few times this season polaying for the Youth Team and was impressed by the effort and attitude he applied to his game. He has been involved in a few of our squads and when he has made and appearance from the bench, has not let us or himself down. (Ironically he was due to make his 1st start for us in the Highgate game).

Good news for the Reserves comes in the form of Jim Lewesley having another promising appearance in the 1st team game at home to Sutton in midweek. Well done Jim. Hopefully Andy Cheetham is feeling a bit of pressure from Jim for the 1st team left full back shirt and that competition for places can only benefit both players by keeping them on their toes. Simon and I are quite hopeful that one or two more lads will be getting chances with the 1st team squad soon, but the message to the lads is that chances need to be earned by playing consistently well for the reserves, not just every other game or so.

Finally, I’ve seem comments posted recently on our web-site forum that there are a few good young players out there playing local football worth looking at.
Believe me, we have tried to get some of those names that are mentioned but some haven’t shown enough interest and others aren’t any better than some of the lads we have currently got

However if there are genuine good young lads out there who you think are better players than we have currently then please contact me to exchange numbers when you next see me at the Moat ground.
