Rovers double cruncher
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers could plunge two new signings into the most important Banks’s West Midlands League game in the club’s history on Saturday (3pm).
Rovers meet league leaders and FA Vase finalists Halesowen at the Moat Ground knowing that victory would move them a giant step nearer to an historic championship win.

And manager Frank Northwood may decide that the vast experience of newly signed defender Dave Butler and the attacking flair of striker Nigel Burrows could be the key to that win.

Both are picked to make their debuts against a side, which has been far and away the West Midlands League’s best for several years.

Yet Halesowen, who this week qualified for their third Wembley final in four seasons after beating Warrington in an FA Vase replay and have won three consecutive league championships, are not quite invincible.

Rovers came close to an upset when they lost by the odd goal in five at Halesowen earlier in the season.

If they turn the table this time it can set them up for another decisive clash on Monday morning when Atherstone United visit the Moat (11am).

Atherstone – currently just behind Rovers in fourth place in the table – also believe they can win the title that Halesowen have monopolised for so long.

Northwood has named a 14-man squad for the two games.
