Rovers Millennium Cup Joy!

Brian Clough presents a cheque to Matthew Sanders' parents Michael and Janet for the memorial fund.

Gresley Rovers walked off with the Millennium Cup at Eaton Park last night and gained two new "fans" in the process.
The Moatmen, already 2 - 1 ahead from the first leg in December, completed the double over arch rivals Burton Albion, managed by Brian Clough, thanks to a second half strike from Graeme Fowkes. And Albion managerial duo Nigel Clough and Gary Crosby were quick to heap praise on Brian Kenning's young, compact and neatly efficient team. Clough said "We were impressed with Gresley. They're a well organised and much improved team from the last time we played them". Crosby was even more effusive, saying "They're a very good side - much better than some of the teams we play in the Premier Division". It was still smiles all around however, as the prime objective was achieved. The match attracted a crowd of more that 600 on a distinctly chilly evening to raise 2000 for the Sporting Trust Fund set up in memory of Melbourne youngster Matthew Sanders, who tragically collapsed and died while training with Albion's youth team last summer.
