Rovers remain positive

Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay saw his side suffer back-to-back Dr Martens Western Division defeats over the weekend and declared the Moatmen need to sharpen their game up front.
Rovers went down by the only goal of the game to Tiverton at the Moat Ground on Saturday and also subsided to a single-goal reverse in atrocious conditions at Weston-super Mare yesterday (Sunday).

Said McGinlay: "There was very heavy rain beforehand and persistent rain during the game - to be honest if we'd not travelled so far there'd have been a serious doubt over the game. It's obviously very disappointing to have lost two games on the trot but if there's good to come out of the bad it's that we're much tighter at the back. Earlier on we might have been making four of five mistakes and being punished but now it's that solitary mistake that's cost us.

"It's a lot tighter at the back but the midfield are now sitting a little too deep meaning we're sometimes missing the support up front, we're just missing that edge."

And former Scotland international renewed his attack on league administrators who have refused to countenance an extension of the season that has been badly hit by postponements.

"We've played twice in 48 hours over the weekend and we've got to do it all over again next weekend," said McGinlay. "I'm not making excuses because it's the same for all the clubs but I have to say it's a disgrace the way the players are being treated. They wouldn't allow professionals to do it and all they do is train full-time - my boys have two sessions a week."
