Rovers Making Strides

Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay believes his team are "getting there" after a battling 1 - 1 draw with Atherstone United at the Moat Ground on Saturday.
Rovers led for 91 minutes after Barry Woolley, who returns with the Moatmen to former club Rocester today (3pm), had headed the opener with only two minutes gone, with 19-year-old keeper Mark Sheils the star of the show.

However, an error from on-loan Burton Albion defender Michael Forsyth handed Atherstone a draw as Leon Kelly pounced to level with seven minutes left.

The result left McGinlay full of sympathy for his recent signings from Redditch, with the Moat chief saying: "I feel sorry for the keeper: he deserved a clean sheet.

He was absolutely magnificent. It was such a shame for him because he produced a fantastic performance."

McGinlay was less than happy with his team's potency at the opposite end of the field, however, saying "Especially in the first half, we had plenty of chances we should have made better of but we didn't kill them off.

"There has been an improvement. What we need to do now is score more than once in a game!

Several players were involved at Tiverton on Thursday and we looked tired in the second half which worries me. We need to freshen up a bit before Monday."

McGinlay was planning to weigh up his selection options ahead of today's derby trip to Hillsfield.

The keeper will start but apart from that I've not decided anything" he said.
