Dolby: We can do it
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers manager Steve Dolby insists his team are still in line for promotion from the Beazer Homes Midland Division despite seeing them slip to their third consecutive defeat on Saturday.
After Rovers lost 1-0 to title rivals Nuneaton Borough at the Moat Ground Dolby said: “I was disappointed and not disappointed by the game – and it was a good performance. Obviously, I was disappointed with the goal. It came from another set piece and we’ve conceded so many like that this season.

“Nuneaton had one or two chances but generally we defended well. They just had a lucky break and we didn’t. I was very disappointed when we lost to Ilkeston in midweek because we didn’t do ourselves justice but we started to play a little bit of football today and if we can carry on like that promotion is still a definite possibility.

“I honestly thank that ourselves and Nuneaton are the best two sides in the league and the obvious way to prove that is for us to finish first and second – and it’s still not beyond the bounds of possibility that we could be the team to finish first.

“Injuries are going to play a big part. We had seven players out today and five who started the game would not have done under normal circumstances. But other teams, like Nuneaton, are going through the same thing so I’ve just got to keep fielding the best side available.”

Rovers were facing another tough test today with a trip to Tamworth scheduled for this morning followed by a visit to Newport AFC at Gloucester on Wednesday.
