Smith suffers setback
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers striker Keiron Smith has suffered a heart-breaking setback in his bid to shake off a knee injury.
The 31-year-old frontrunner was due to take part in a reserve team game last night after testing his fitness in a Sunday game.

But Smith’s weekend comeback bid lasted only a few minutes and it now seems likely he will not play again this season.

Smith suffered the injury in an x-rated challenge by Rushden & Diamonds skipper John Flower on December 19th.

It was later diagnosed as a torn cartilage but the striker was hopeful of being able to play on after a 12-week lay off.

But now those hopes are in tatters with Smith likely to require an operation.

Meanwhile, midfielder Tony Marsden, who broke a bone in his leg in a cup game – also against Rushden & Diamonds – continued his comeback for Rovers reserves in a 2-1 win over Stratford Town reserves last night.
