Rovers do it on the cheap

Gresley Rovers plan to provide the cheapest football in the Beazer Homes League next season.
The club has announced increased admission charges of £2.50 (£1.50 OAPs and children) in line with the league minimum – but Rovers development officer Frank McArdle claims fans will not find cheaper soccer anywhere else in the league.

McArdle said: “We are obliged to put prices up to come in line with the league but I can say with confidence that our will be the cheapest Beazer Homes League gate price – most charge £3.”

Season tickets are now on sale priced £45 (£22.50 concessions).

In addition, Rovers will take to the field to the strains of a new club song next season – thanks to a local poet and the BBC.

Retired Swadlincote miner Don Thompson penned the ode – titled “Just Great Gresley Rovers” – to mark Gresley’s league and Vase success – and BBC whizzkids came up with a tune when they incorporated the bard’s efforts in a TV documentary on the club.

Now club officials have recorded the anthem using professional musicians and plan to pipe the song to fans every time Rovers play at the Moat Ground next season – the club’s first in the Beazer Midlands soccer – with tapes of the song going on sale in the club shop.
