Gaz Norton's Reserve team news
Gaz Norton

Gaz Norton

I hope that you have enjoyed the extended weekend afforded to us as a result of the Easter break.
The Reserve team have had two fixtures left until our season ends starting with tomorrow nights trip to Oadby and strangely enough ending on Saturday here at the moat ground against the same opposition.

May I take this opportunity on behalf of all those involved in the Reserve team set up to thank the many of you who have shown the Reserve team great support and encouragement all season. We've had a great season both on and off the pitch and it has been made all the more enjoyable by the support and encouragement received from many quarters. In particular I would like to thank our Chairman, Mark Evans as well as Jon Newsome and Alan Titterton for the council and support they have given us all season. This also goes for the many volunteers behind the scenes who make things run smoothly during the course of the season for the Reserve team.

These notes were written before our home game on Saturday against Solihull but in our last two games since I wrote programme notes we have recorded good away victories. We went to Quorn and got a great 2-1 win with goals coming from Captain Mickey Sandar and Carl Slater and last Tuesday we travelled to Barwell and got a 1-0 win through a Carl Eagling goal in the second half. The Barwell game was frustrating as we again created enough chances to win 3 games but couldnít find the cutting edge. The pleasing thing is that we defended well and got a great clean sheet. The bumpy surface didnít help matters in terms of the quality of football played but overall I was more than happy with the 3 points.

Micky Sandar deserves a special mention for his efforts this season. He took over the captaincy of the Reserve Team earlier this season when Jim Parkinson broke into the 1st team and has really grown into the role. Vanders and I have been very impressed with his attitude both on and off the pitch. The rest of the lads respond well to Mickey in the dressing room and on the pitch and when he needs to get them going he does it very well. Heís played out of position for most of the season in midfield and also had a spell at fullback so heís proved to be very versatile. That said, heís also managed to chip in with 11 goals this season too. Well done Micky. Keep up the good work.

Finally, Lets get behind the team tonight and push them to a victory.
