Rovers keep it clean

Gresley Rovers go into next week’s League Cup final on the back of a six-match run without conceding a goal.
A 1-0 win at Pelsall last night meant that Rovers’ new boss has yet to see his team let in a goal.

It also gave Gresley a 14-point winning margin at the top of the league while leaving Dolby hopeful of being able to choose from a full strength squad for the game against Paget Rangers at Blakenall a week today.

Defender Stuart Evans and striker Brian Beresford both took part last night – Evans playing the full 90 minutes – and there were no early signs of any reaction to the injuries that have kept the pair sidelined in recent games.

Another bonus was the performance of teenage winger Chris Parkins, who created a string of chances in the second half with his pace and control.

Said Dolby: “Paul Acklam came off with a slight knock but otherwise it doesn’t appear at the moment as if we have any injury worries.

“Chris had his best game yet for us and I was really pleased for him.”
