Rovers forced to ring changes

Gresley Rovers – 4-0 winners over Pelsall Villa at the Moat Ground on Saturday – are set to have an unfamiliar look for tomorrow night’s West Midlands League Cup home tie against Malvern Town.
Centre half Gil Land is unavailable because of work commitments and, with Dean Page having left the club, manager Frank Northwood plans to use either Martin Dick or Frank Nuttall alongside Stuart Evans in central defence.

Page has been released because of availability problems while midfielder Neil Lovell has also left the club.

Manager Frank Northwood said: “I’ve let Dean go because of his lack of availability for games – it’s nothing to do with his ability as a player.

“Lovell has been released for a month or so while he considers his position. He’s got no argument with the club but he knows he’s not been doing the business.”

Northwood has already plugged one of the gaps by signing defender Jason Minton from Willenhall.

The 23-year-old Minton made one appearance for Gresley last season as a stand-in for injured skipper Richard Denby in midfield.

But Northwood intends to use him in a central defender and said: “He’s quality – a Steve Astley type of player who likes to play the ball from the back.”
