Vase boss clocks up the miles
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Littlehampton Town manager Carl Stabler is clocking up the miles in a bid to end Gresley Rovers’ FA Vase dream with heartbreak.
The Sussex-based boss was at Matlock last night to check Gresley’s progress as the Moatmen defeated Matlock Town 1-0 in a Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final replay.

And he admitted afterwards: “This is the second time I’ve watched Gresley in three days – and it means another long drive home tonight!”

Stabler checked Rovers’ 0-0 Banks’s League Cup draw at Chasetown on Saturday and told the Mail last night: “They are a similar side to us with some very good players. I was particularly impressed with the number four, Denby. Obviously you don’t get to this stage of the FA Vase without being a good side. But we’ll be looking to play our normal game at Gresley on Saturday.”

Stadler’s travels have also taken him to the Moat Ground which he assesses as “a bit hilly.”

Littlehampton’s The Sportsfield pitch is bound to be flat, however – it is just 200 yards from the seafront!

Gresley, winners of the Senior Cup for the last three seasons, could meet neighbours Stapenhill in the final for the second time in three years.

The Swans drew their semi-final at Borrowash at the weekend and replay at Edge Hill on Saturday.

Moatmen camera call

Gresley Rovers are to feature on BBC Regional Television on Friday evening.

Camera from East Midlands BBC filmed last night’s game at Matlock and are scheduled to cover Rovers’ training session at the Moat Ground on Thursday as part of the programme’s preview of Saturday’s FA Vase semi-final first leg against Littlehampton Town at Gresley.
