Pre-Season Friendly

The Moat Ground

Tuesday, 25th July 2023, 7.45pm

Another Pre-Season Win For Rovers

After the late withdrawal of Bromsgrove Sporting from our scheduled friendly, Chasetown very kindly stepped in and sent a youthful side to the Moat Ground. The Scholars had split their side sending the other side to Shifnal also for a friendly.

There were several notable absentees with Alby Lansdowne, Mason Frizelle, Dexter Dudley-Toole, James Tague and Lewis Belgrave all unavailable.

Rovers took an early lead when on 5 minutes a good move down the left ended with a blistering shot at the near post which was well blocked by the visiting keeper, but Kane Lee reacted quickly smashing the ball home from close in.

For the rest of the first half both sides were cancelling each other out but it was Rovers who were making the better of the chances and ended the period with a shot across the face of Chasetown’s goal but a shot at the near post was well blocked.

Changes were made at the break and Chasetown started the second half brightly with a header from a deep cross going wide.

On 64 minutes the visitors almost levelled. A quick break down the right ended with a terrific strike goalwards but Rovers’ keeper, Louis Fenney, made a stupendous one handed save diving to his right to keep the ball out of his net.

However, he could do nothing to prevent the second chance from going in the net. A few moments of hesitation from the home defence allowed a cross to fly over their heads before being slotted home from close in past the exposed Fenney.

The game settled again for the next 10 minutes but Ste Hart livened thing up. A great run down the right from Haydn Brown saw him pick out Hart in the area. The front man controlled the ball before turning his marker and hitting a low shot which crashed back of the base of the upright.

Hart didn’t have to wait long for his goal. Again, another good move saw the ball played to him and he curled a lovely ball around the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Hart doubled his tally scoring Rovers’ third goal of the night. The Scholars keeper tried to dribble the ball out of his area but Hart robbed him of it and slotted the ball into the empty net.
