Gresley Rovers vs St. Leonard's Stamcroft

Hastings based side Stamcroft St Leonards made the long journey to the Moat Ground for a Southern League Premier Division clash on November 15th 1997.

A battling first half performance by the visitors counted for nothing as they were swept aside in a second half Gresley goal rush.

The visitor's seeking their first league win of the season deserved to be level at half time as they gave as good as they got.

Will Davies headed the Moatmen into the lead on the half hour after a good build up involving Cotterill and Kevin Allsop. However, Keith Miles levelled for the visitors five minutes before the break.

On the stroke of half time Guyett headed home a Fitzpatrick free kick but referee Burton decided to rule out the goal.

As if to even things up, the ref then took centre stage by awarding Rovers a controversial penalty following Jones' challenge on Davies which appeared to be well outside the box. When the visitors' protests resided Fitzpatrick slotted home the spot kick.

Former Nottingham Forest and Scotland midfielder Terry Wilson put the game beyond the visitors' reach with a 30-yard free kick.

Late goals from Allsop and Paul Grant completed the rout.

Rovers: Ford, Cotterill, Horseman, Denby, Guyett, Fitzpatrick, Robinson, wardle, Allsopp, Davies, Wilson.
