Gresley Rovers vs Westfields

Dolby still has back problems - Andy Parker - Burton Mail

Gresley made light work of the demolition of former West Midlands League rivals Westfields - but boss Steve Dolby was not pleased.

Dolby conceded that his side's performance was "much improved" after the midweek mauling at Armitage but rapped: "I was still disappointed with the goal we gave away - there's still room for improvement at the back."

Keeper Bob Aston was left completely exposed for Westfield's 57th minute consolation, slid home by striker Carl Harris.

But there was much to admire elsewhere as Gresley's class-packed midfield made an exhibition of the game, played in the memory of the late Westfields striker Brian Preece.

Full back David Preece put past his own keeper for a ninth-minute opener before Mick Taplin gave more evidence that he is beginning to find a groove at Gresley with the first of two goals.

Kieron Smith also notched a brace of but the pick of the goals was a sweet left foot shot from the edge of the box by Robbie Briscoe, the ex Ram who could prove to be a brilliant signing for Rovers.
