Gresley FC vs Banbury United

A Glorious Bank Holiday afternoon at the Moat Ground saw Gresley Reserves continue their excellent season with a convincing 3-0 win over Banbury United reserves.
Early pressure saw the home team go close twice before a 25 yard free kick from Ben Minshull was put over the bar by the Banbury keeper.

Play then switched and George Woodward saved at the feet of Rose, the Banbury number 9.
The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute when Minshull worked his way into the area and put a superb shot into the far corner to put Gresley ahead.

Gresley continued to press and their pressure paid off on the stroke of half time when with Banbury appealing for offside Minshull kept his cool to round the keeper and slot the ball home.

At the start of the second half Banbury upped their tempo but in the 49th minute interplay between Minshull and Brad Metcalfe saw a shot half saved but Adam Stockdale followed up to put the Home team three goals to the good.

Banbury pressed several times but Woodward and the defence held firm before Minshull again had a good effort saved just before being replaced by Will Simpson.

The remainder of the game saw both sides come close but the whistle went with the Moatmen earning another fine win.

Results elsewhere have given Redditch reserves the favourite tag but with them having three more games to fit in this week anything can happen and a win in their final game of the season at home to Lichfield on Saturday (kick off 1.30pm) will see Gresley Reserves finish as runner up at worst.

So come on you Gresley fans get up to the Moat on Saturday before the FA Cup final and give these players a helpful push to victory.

My Man of the Match was Gresley`s Jack Dodd who gave an assured defensive performance.
