Hinckley United vs Gresley Rovers

Team from: Pemberton, Gadsby, Cox(c), Mawbey, Grosse, Dunn, Miller, Heer, Hall, Williams, Bolt, Rowell, Harrison, Yearsley, Whetton,

This is a game I'd like to forget in a hurry, though feel it is one which will stick in my mind for sometime.

We began with a 4-5-1 and never looked troubled. In fact I would say we had the better of the first half. We never looked like conceding anything but didn't create enough either to really go on and win the game. Bit of a stalemate.

Alex bolt came close a couple of times on his return. Making runs which completely out paced the Hinckley full backs. A few other chances went begging but on the whole it was a fairly non-eventful first half. I wish I could say the same about the second.

We spoke at half time about how we would create more going forward so that we could go on and win the game. We felt very confident it was ours for the taking. Therefore it was hard to understand what happened next. Pat Rowell replaced Alex Bolt who was struggling for match fitness.

Hinckley are a very young side and their ability to get players up and down the pitch in support was excellent and to be honest "killed us". We gave the ball away cheaply and about five minutes into the half Hinckley took the lead with a nice passing move and a quality finish. From this moment on we collapsed. We had no belief in getting a goal and soon went two behind. We changed to a 3-5-2 to try to attack, but were getting nowhere. We seemed to have little energy and Hinckley just embarrassed us from then on. They played good simple easy passing football and were lining up to finish. I can't find anything positive to say about anyone's perfromance. What's worse Hinckley played good football but were no better a side than us, yet looked miles ahead.

Harrison and Whetton came on, Harrison getting sent off for handball not long before the end of the game. Hinckley converted the penalty to make it five.

We had a good talk after the game. Aired a few things. Changes need and will be made. Let's hope we can bounce back.
