Gresley Rovers vs Tipton Town

Gresley needed to bounce back from their defeat last Saturday and a mid-week game was ideal. Changes in both formation and personal were made and the Reserves never looked back. Suki Heer was a much welcomed return in midfield and a 4-5-1 formation allowed Nicky Carter to play in a more forward midfield position behind the leading striker. Rowell and Williams played out wide but in a more attacking roll. Tonight the lads were told to just go out and play and let them worry about us. To be honest we deserved the win all the way.

Playing safer at the back and with a lot more discipline we returned to a more usual performance.

Our midfield continued to be out-standing and with the distribution of Carter we were on top for the majority of the game. Tipton were a good hard working side and created their chances but on the whole I feel we were the better side.

Gresley took the lead when Carter chipped a delightful pass for Rowell to head into the path of Hall. Hall's strength saw him hold off the challenges and chip the ball over the advancing keeper. Gresley continued with solid defending and good midfield work. A number of chances were created but not finished. It was somewhat against the run of play when Tipton equalised. A strike from about 30 yards found it's way in at the near post and we were level. That was how it stayed at the break.

Half-time talk and we felt we should be winning and could go back out and win the game. We did exactly that. Williams caused all sorts of problems down the right and our midfield was dominant. We finally regained the lead when a corner from Williams was cleared back to him and his second cross was perfectly placed for Lewis Gadsby to head home for his first goal for the Reserves. Gresley stayed on top of the match and anything less than a win would have been unjust.

Overall a good way to bounce back and a confidence boosting performance.
