Gresley Rovers vs Chasetown

Well just as we were very good last week we were very bad this. Having the pleasure of a striker that can hold onto a ball and begin moves last week, the lack of one in today's game screamed out the problem.

The opening twenty minutes saw Gresley begin well, looking well on top. Unfortunately as in the past, created chances were not converted and it was Gresley who went one behind first. The main mistakes for the Gresley defence were that they were marking too far up the field and putting themselves under unnecessary pressure. Chasetown's quick centre forward gave us all sorts of problems and it wasn't long before he received a ball over the top of our defence, brought it down with one foot and finished with the other, terrific goal. In the defence of our defence when you see the ball come back time and time again it is difficult to stop the opposition scoring.

Our midfield too looked over ran and we looked short on ideas. Despite our training being based on players sticking with their markers, the marking was all most non-existent. Andy Dunn's presence for me was missed on and off the field.

Changes were made at half time, Mickey Sander gave us a bit more go in the middle but we still lacked in most other areas. The formation was switched to 3-5-2 in order to try and get something back, but any chances that we did get were squandered.

Chasetown added a third when their centre forward again got free, and despite being on his hat trick, unselfishly chipped it to the back post to be tapped home.

Having thought last week we had players knocking on the door of the first team, this kind of a performance makes you less sure.

Positives for me were, Lee Villars in goals, i would have no hesitation in putting him in the first team at all. Tom Guiney had a steady display, and Chris Morby still looks one for the future.

For everyone else, it's back to the drawing board.
