Gresley Rovers vs Shepshed Dynamo

Rovers Reserves dominated this encounter for long periods but could not shake off Shepshed in a game that should have been over by half time.

Rovers had most of the early possession and should have taken the lead on 12 minutes when Mykey Pryce broke clear of the Shepshed defence and with Yearsley unmarked at the far post Pryce got caught in 2 minds and his cross cum shot went out for a goal kick.

Matt Moran, again playing on the left continued his rich vein of form and forced Gibson in the Shepshed goal into a fine save on 22 minutes. Gibson was again to the rescue, this time to tip Paul Grosse's fierce 35 yard drive round the post for a corner.

The resulting corner was met with a fine header from Mick Sandar at the near post but his effort came back off the bar.

Pryce went close again on 28 minutes but his shot found only the side netting. Moran was running the show and another of his marauding runs looked to have come good but he just pulled his shot wide of the near post after leaving a trail of defenders in his wake.

Ryan Yearsley had a good chance to score but his 1st touch took him wide of the goal and the chance was lost.

Ian Roberts produce a stunning save to Deny Shepshed a certain goal. Neat play on the edge of the Rovers box ended up with Nichels bearing down on goal from 8 yards and his shot was arrowing for the corner of the net before Roberts produced an unbelievable save to tip the ball round the post for a corner.

The second half started in a similar vein with Rovers chances coming and going. James Parkinson missed a good opportunity when well placed in the box and Pryce, Yearsley and Moran were all guilty of missing the target when they could have at least tested the keeper.

With all the chances coming and going, when the opening goal did come, it was bound to be freakish. Mick Sandar cut inside from the left and his 77th minutes shot from distance looked to be covered by Gibson in the Shepshed goal but it hit Pryce in the back and to ball took a wicked deflection and trickled into the net.

Shepshed equalised 2 minutes later. A routine free kick straight at Ian Roberts somehow spilled out from his body and Newbold fired home the rebound from 8 yards.
