Boldmere St Michael's vs Gresley Rovers

Rovers Reserves went into this ICIS Reserve top of the table clash full of expectation to continue their good start to the season. Missing James Parkinson who was called up for his 1st team debut, Gareth Langford was called back into the side in his place. Reserve team regulars Carl Timms and Earl Alexander also started for the 1st team.

On a heavy pitch it was Boldmere who adapted best going on the offensive from the off, putting the Rovers defence under pressure. Boldmere took the lead on 9 minutes when a misplaced pass by Jon Jenkinson found Boldmere's Arron Roberts in space to slot past the advancing Brad Clarke.

Things went from bad to worse in the 15th minute when another misplaced back pass, this time by Greg Smith, found the same Boldmere player who gleefully accepted his 2nd gift of the afternoon.

Matt Moran’s industry gave Rovers the best chance of getting back into the game and he released Mykey Pryce for a good effort on 23 minutes but his shot flew just wide.

Roberts could not believe his luck when he was presented with a 3rd opportunity on 37 minutes when Danny Lonergan pass found him in space but this time Brad Clarke came to the rescue to save Lonergan’s blushes.

Roberts did complete his hat-trick on 77 minutes when a 35 yard free kick was tipped onto the bar by Clarke and Roberts tapped home the rebound. Clarke was injured in the incident and Ryan Yearsley took up the keeper’s jersey and made 2 or 3 excellent stops.

The best of all came on 83 minutes when the danger man Roberts fired in a snap shot from 20 yards and Yearsley flew to his right to tip the ball found the post. A miserable afternoon was complete when Jon Jenkinson lost the ball in midfield and Inman found Roberts to score his 4th goal with a close range diving header.
