Redditch United vs Gresley Rovers

Rovers Reserves made it 3 out of 3 with an excellent performance at Redditch United.

Carl Timms again had an outstanding game in midfield scoring two goals and Mark Peters did like wise. John Jenkinson also had a superb game up front as they Ran in 7 goals to top the early league table.

Rovers dominated much of the early exchanges without really creating any clearcut chances although an early ball from James Lewesly found Jenkinson in space but he guided his shot wide od the post after 6 minutes. Matt Moran Stung the keepers fingers after he picked up a loose ball 25yards out and unleashed a thunderbolt shot which the keeper could only parry for a corner.

The resultant corner had Redditch all over the place as a cleverly worked routine gave Nathan Tate a clear run on goal but his shot was again beaten away by Chris Scott in the Redditch goal. Moran again went close on 30 minutes but his free kick was saved by the already overworked Scott.

Rovers took a deserved lead on 40 minutes when Danny Lonergan unleashed an unstoppable 30 yard strike that flew into the top corner of the Redditch net.

Two minutes later James Lewesley, making his 1st start since a knee injury last season went down in a heap after a routine header. He had twisted the same knee and had to be stretchered off and looks likely to face another lengthy lay off.

Rovers pressed on and extended the lead in 1st half injury time. Danny Lonergans crossfield ball found Jenkinson in space and his excellent reverse pass found Micky Sandar on the edge of the box to crash a 1st time strike into the back of the net. The impressive Carl Timms made it 3-0 on 50 minutes when he single handedly waltzed through the Redditch Midfield and Defence before driving an unstoppable drive past Scott.

Substitute Matt Brown had the chance to make it 4-0 on 60 mins when his left foot shot hit the post and Mat Moran shot inches wide with the rebound. Mark Peters did make it 4 on 67 minutes when he placed his 25 yard freekick to perfection into the corner of the net. Redditch scored a consolation on 69 minutes when Stuart Hall capitalised on a mistake by Danny Lonergan to fire a shot past Ian Roberts.

Carl Timms got his 2nd of the game when the hard working Jenkinson cut in from the right and crossed perfectly for Timms to drive home from 12 yards. Matt Brown got a deserved goal on 79 minutes when Jenkinson fed Mark Peters on the right and he sold the keeper before crossing for Brown to score from close range. Jenkinson crossed again, this time for Brown and his shot hit the post again and rebounded out to Moran who had his goalbound effort handled on the line. Mark Peters despatched the resultant penalty to complete the scoring. Sub Brown still had time to hit the woodwork for the 3rd time after Jenkinson again found him in space.
