Gresley Rovers’ leading scorer Brian Beresford faces a race against time to regain fitness for the club’s biggest match of the season.
Beresford suffered a serious hamstring injury in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Atherstone, jeopardising his hopes of leading Rovers’ attack in the final of Banks’s League Cup against the Adders at Tamworth on Monday May 4th (7.30 pm).

Rovers’ boss Frank Northwood said today: “There’s a possibility that Brian could be out for the remainder of the season which could be a real blow.

“Brian will be seeing a specialist tonight and we should have a clearer picture about his chances of making the final after then.”

Yesterday’s draw all but put paid to Rovers’ hopes of pipping Atherstone to the League title.

Northwood said: “We desperately needed to win, but all the important decisions went against us. The referee gave them a penalty for a foul that was a good two yards outside the area and then when he had a chance in the second half to redress the balance he didn’t want to know.”
