Dolby targets a double signing

Gresley Rovers boss Steve Dolby is hoping to bring experienced Beazer League players into his squad with at least two well-known names on his hit list.
But his hopes of attracting midfielder Clive Westwood to the Moat Ground have dissolved after the former Burton Albion favourite declared he was quitting Saturday soccer all together.

I spoke to Clive with Burton Albion’s permission but he say’s he doesn’t want to play Saturday football at our level, although he might play locally,” said Dolby.

Meanwhile, Wembley hero Steve Astley has left the Moat Ground intending to play at a lower level.

The 34-year-old defender intimated at the end of last season that he would not be continuing at first team level with Rovers.

Said Dolby: “It’s got to the point where he’s thinking of packing up but he’s going to see how he feels at the start of the season.

“But Steve is the only player from last season’s squad who has left us – the rest are there or thereabouts.”

Dolby has yet to appoint a right-hand man and stressed that striker Brian Beresford was still a player with the club. He is in a transitional stage between playing and coaching but he is still primarily a player and has not been appointed coach.”
