Rovers starlet on the move?

West Bromwich Albion could be poised to snap up Gresley Rovers starlet Chris Parkins.
Parkins, who played for West Brom’s youth side last season before breaking into Rovers’ first team, is taking part in pre-season training with the West Midlands club, now managed by Osvaldo Ardiles.

Gresley boss Steve Dolby was hoping to hang on to the 17-year-old prodigy, who was a regular member of the side which finished second in the West Midlands Youth League last term.

Albion are still to make a decision on Parkin but have shown their interest by agreeing to come to Gresley for a prestige pre-season friendly on a date to be fixed.

The dynamic youngster was a revelation after breaking into Gresley’s first team for the final few games of the championship campaign, quickly becoming a fans’ favourite after a string of eye-catching performances.

Meanwhile, Rovers are also hoping to attract Derby County to the Moat Ground as part of their build-up to Beazer Homes League football.

Burton Albion are already pencilled in for the second leg of Johnson Cup while West Midlands League side Westfields will also be visiting the Moat Ground in a fund-raiser for the family of former striker Brian Preece, who died in a road smash last season.

Newcastle Town, who knocked Rovers out of last season’s FA Vase competition, also want to play a pre-season game at the Moat, while Rovers have also been in contact with newly-promoted Conference outfit Bromsgrove Rovers.
