Second Half Blitz Beats The Saints
Gresley were made to work hard for their win despite having the major share of the possession and chances.
It wasn't until late in the second half that the home side managed to breach Heather's defence but then three goals arrived in three minutes.
Gresley opened quickly and were soon putting Heather's defence under pressure forcing an early corner, Ash Robinson then heading Rob Mulonga's cross from the left narrowly wide of the far post and Lucas Harrison heading Rob Richie-Smith's cross just over the bar all within the first five minutes.
Jack Langston then tested Heather's keeper George Woodward with a low shot which he dealt with comfortably. Woodward was in action again soon afterwards having to push a stinging shot from Harrison away for a corner.
Gresley were playing some good passing football and one move ended with Robinson laying the ball back for Josh Wright who fired his shot over the bar.
The first attempt of note for the visitors came on 35 minutes with Dan Chatfield firing a shot which keeper Tom Turner saved easily.
The rest of the half belonged to Gresley as the forced Heather back conceding three further corners.
Both sides made changes for the second half and one of the substitutes Kieran O'Connell having a chance to open the scoring when he cut in from the left but his shot wide of the far post.
With 20 minutes remaining Gresley took the lead. O'Connell dribbled his way through the Heather defence and into the area before smashing his shot past Woodward .
The lead was doubled in as many minutes when Brad Wells cut in from the right hitting a shot which beat Woodward.
A third goal wasn't far behind. A superb pass from Jamie Barrett picked out O'Connell who turned and hit a shot which Woodward parried but Wells followed up quickly slotting the rebound home.
O'Connell then picked out Alex Steadman with Woodward doing well to block the shot but the young keeper did even better when he made a breathtaking save to deny Steadman again just second later. This time he somehow managed to get a strong fist to Steadman's powerfully hit shot punching the ball over the bar.
The night was finished off in style when Riddell superbly headed home Richie-Smith's corner from the right.
