Gresley Rovers vs Long Eaton Town

Gresley Rovers 3 - 0 Long Eaton Town

A Central Alliance Division One game saw Long Eaton Town visit Gresley on 4th November 1950.

Rovers: Arthur Brimley, Ted Bowler, John Wood, Willie Jarvis, Ken Pallett, Jack Tunstall, David Kerr, Bill Burton, Charlie Nicklin, Alf Fearn, Maurice Howell.

Town: Simpson, Halstead, Butler, Fisher, MacDonald, Gregory, Whiting, Lockley, Ward, Clackston.

Rovers unbeaten in their previous five home games preserved their record with another victory.

Town's Halstead saved his side with a clever intervention after Nicklin and Jarvis had looked dangerous. When Pallett handled on the edge of the area Lockley went close with a close range shot that Brimley did well to save.

Burton, Jarvis and Nicklin again set up a good move but the Town custodian Simpson was well placed to thwart Alfie Fearn.

Rovers took the lead in the twentieth minute, from Tunstall's centre Nicklin went onto one knee and, as he rose, turned and crashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Fearn was again Rovers outstanding player; he provided some fine passes particularly to Kerr. Burton made it two nil in the twenty fifth minute with a 20-yard shot after Kerr had turned the ball back from the goal line.

Rovers generally held the upper hand in the second half - Town rarely threatened.

Maurice Rowell scored the final goal of the game in the 65th minute to keep up Rovers unbeaten home league run.
