Frederick Shreeve

Debut game
v Barnsley Reserves h) 3rd December 1904

Final game for Gresley Rovers first team
v Doncaster Rovers (a) 29th April 1905

Known as 'Sparrow'

Fred was regarded as one of the best forwards in local football and was described as fast, bustling and of the go-ahead type, capable of playing both inside and outside positions on the wing.

Later in the season Fred played right back to cover for an injury.

After leaving Rovers Fred joined Burton United and played one season with them. In May 1906 he joined Millwall where he played for 2 seasons and in 1908 signed for West Ham United.
Fred left West Ham at the end of the season 1911 to join Doncaster Rovers. Two years later Fred signed for Bentley Colliery. We do not know what happened during 1914-1919 but he signed for Methley Perseverance 1919 to 1920.

Fred worked as a blacksmith and his son, also a full back, played for Charlton Athletic and played in the 1946 and 1947 in the FA Cup Finals being on the losing side in the first but a winner in the second.

Fred died in Halifax in 1962 aged 80 years.
