Tough one for Moat boys

Gresley Rovers will have to overcome a Harwich and Parkeston side brimming with confidence after giving Cammell Laird their FA Vase marching orders.
The Shrimpers beat Cammell Laird 3-2 in extra time to cue up the clash with Gresley and club general manager Jim Warnes expects a tight game.

“Cammell Laird may be a league below us but they are a very big fish in a small pond and are a schooling ground for players for teams such as Maccesfield,” said Warnes.

Harwich are currently lying eighth from the bottom in the Eastern Counties League, but have only played 11 games after a successful run in cup competitions.

High point in the club’s history was their 1953 trip to Wembley in the FA Amateur Cup where they lost to semi-professionals Pegasus 6-0.

The former Isthmian League and Athenian League side in the 1970’s, are currently managed by former Arsenal player Richard Powling.

In recent seasons Harwich have carried out more than £80,000 of work to their ground, including putting in 250 bucket seats in the stand, a revamped social club and new floodlights.

“We know Gresley are 15 points clear in the Banks’s League and we are having them watched on Saturday to check them out,” said Warnes.
