Rovers keep fingers crossed

Gresley boss Frank Northwood is facing a mounting injury headache at the Moat Ground.
With Rovers without a fixture today due to the vagaries of the Banks’s League fixture programme, Northwood will be hoping for unexpected good news on three fronts.

Midfielders Richard Denby and Stuart Stokes are both under treatment for potentially long-term problems while striker Brian Beresford is expected to be out for several weeks.

Denby said: “I’ve got to have more treatment but the worst thing about the injury is that no-one seems to know exactly what it is. I’ve even had acupunctured but it’s just not clearing up.”

Stokes saw a physiotherapist on Monday with his injured thigh muscle and was told he would be able to play in Tuesday’s game against West Bromwich Town. That was obviously bad advice because Stokes had to limp out of action after 12 minutes and admitted later: “It’s very painful at the moment.”
