Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood saw his side open up a five point gap at the top of the Banks’s League Premier Division last night and then promised: “We’re going to lay our bogey.”
Rovers romped to a 5-0 win against Stourport Swifts and Northwood immediately set his sights on gunning down Paget Rangers, tomorrow’s visitors to the Moat Ground (3pm).

He said: “They’ve beaten us in the FA Vase and the League Cup this season but we’ll do ’em tomorrow.

“I don’t think they’re that good, especially in defence, and my boys are all geed up and ready to get at them. I’m very optimistic that we’ll go into the New Year with a win which will keep us on top of the table.

“There’s a long way to go yet, but that would be a great position to be in because it puts pressure on the other clubs to win their games to stay with us.

Rovers received a belated Christmas present last night – a £500 cheque from Burton Albion to compensate them for the loss of coach Steve Dolby.

The cheque was delivered personally by Brewers chairman Sam Brassington said: “We did not need to pay anything for Steve but, as promised at the time, we wanted to make a donation as a gesture of goodwill.”
