FA Vase gives Rovers home tie

Banks’s League rivals Gresley and Rocester are both homing in on a dream trip to Wembley after being handed second round FA Vase ties on their own turf.
The Romans having already battled through three rounds of the prestigious competition have been rewarded with a home tie against Hucknall while the Moatmen enter the competition with another encounter with Paget Rangers.

Frank Northwood’s men won at Springfield Road in a premier division encounter but could only force a home replay after a League Cup clash ended all square.

Northwood said: “It’s a difficult one and I would have liked a team from another league for the supporters sake. But at the end of the day we are at home and that’s got to be good news.”

Gresley will have to manager without Kieron Smith for the Vase tie on November 25th however.

The pacey striker suffered a depressed cheek bone injury, ironically against Paget, and has now been told he could be out of action for two or three months.

“It’s a great blow,” said Northwood.
