Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood last night called on Moat Ground fans to “do a Tamworth.”
Rovers entertain Lye Town (7.30) with Northwood claiming: “They are the best team we’ve played this season without a shadow of a doubt. But if the supporters will take a leaf out of Tamworth’s book and really get behind us instead of barracking us it could really lift us.”

Northwood believes that Tamworth’s vocal following have had much to do with their team’s rise towards the top of the Banks’s League.

But a cheer at the right time for Rovers could pay dividends.

“We played really well in the second half of our game at Wolverhampton United on Saturday and I’d like to see us reproduce that form tonight. We got five goals – and three of those were from the middle of the park which pleased me very much.

“True, we defended badly in the first half and got caught cold when we pushed forward too much. But the lads will give Lye a lot more respect tonight, I’m sure of that.”

Saturday’s 5-3 win was all the more pleasing for Northwood when he learned that main title chasers Tamworth had suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Westfields and close rivals Oldbury and Halesowen Harriers had also unexpectedly dropped points.

Now he aims to steal a march on fifth side with title pretensions, fourth-placed Lye. But he has been unable to resist the temptation of fielding an unchanged side.

Sweeper Dean Page will come in to the back line with mark Bromley switching to left back. John Bottomley is also recalled to a 14-man squad.

Visitors Lye have lost just once in the league since Rovers became the first side to beat them this season back in September.
