Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood names a squad packed with new names for tomorrow night’s Derbyshire Centenary Rosebowl clash with Chesterfield at the Moat Ground (7.30).
But the best news for Rovers fans concerns a player well known on the Moat Ground terraces.

Ray Skeemer, the central defender whose last two seasons have been wrecked by injury and whose recent linking with Stapenhill put his Gresley future in doubt begins his comeback in a 19-man squad.

Another ex-Rover hoping for a return is former coach Glenn ‘Pepsi’ West who has intimated to Northwood his desire to return to Banks’s League soccer.

Said Northwood recently: “Glenn is a talented player who could still do a very good job for us – but he must prove his fitness to me.”

Tomorrow’s game gives West an ideal chance to do just that, while several newer faces will also be out to impress Northwood and his new right-hand man, former Port Vale coach Alan Philpott.

Among them is Mark Douval, a goalkeeper who performed for Staffordshire side Leek Town last term, and Barry Wilcock the highly rated central defender snatched from Himckley Town during the summer.

Rovers former Borrowash pair, Paul Ackland and Martin Dick, also get their first call-ups.
