Squad Taking Shape
The Gresley FC squad for the forthcoming season is taking shape nicely with news that most of last season's squad have put pen to paper after agreeing deals to remain with the club during the last week.
Gary Hateley, Tom Gutteridge, Mickey Lyons, Rob Spencer, Dean Oliver, Royce Turville, Adam Betteridge, Phil Massingham, Kyle Bryant, Jamie Barrett, Gareth Langford, Richard Hanslow, James Jepson, Tom Betteridge, Marc Strzyzewski and Richard Butler have all signed ahead of the clubs first season in the Evostik Northern Premier League.

Of the remainder of last season's Midland Football Alliance title winning squad the popular Michael Nottingham has verbally agreed terms for a new deal and is expected to sign it during the next week whilst talks are ongoing with Marc Goodfellow and Jordi Gough and will commence with Aaron Dillon after he returned from holiday this week.

However, although agreeing to sign as cover Danny Holmes will largely be unavailable the season after landing a new job coaching the Derby County U16's side.

Meanwhile the club have announced a few new additions to the squad. Former Coalville and Stratford midfielder Craig Attwood has signed for the club as has former Stamford defender Luke Garton.

Attwood was a target for the club midway through last season whilst he was at Stratford but a knee injury put paid to the move materialising at the time.

Ex Aston Villa trainee and former Mickleover Sports defender Matt Roome has also been added to the squad whilst a familiar face has also returned to the Moatground in the guise of Dan Douglas.

A number of other potential new signings are currently training with the squad with a view to gaining deals in the coming weeks.

Joint managers Gary Norton and Martin Rowe are pleased with the way the squad is shaping up with Norton telling the clubs website: "It's really pleasing that we have now signed most of last season's squad. They all deserve a chance of a crack in the Evo-stik League. We still have a handful of deals to try and conclude and we will see what develops in the next week or so.

"We are really pleased with the quality of some new lads who have signed after they had impressed us over the course of last season when we saw them in action. We tried to sign Craig Attwood last season but an untimely injury ended up getting in the way of that whilst Matt Roome really impressed when we had him watched playing for Mickleover Sports.

"We know Dan Douglas's capabilities well from when he played for us previously and he did very well against us last season when playing against us. Luke Garton comes recommended to us by Steve Titterton and we hope will prove a good addition."

Norton added: "We will also take a look at a few other lads who have been training with us in friendlies in the next couple of weeks. It's been a shame and pretty frustrating that we have had two games postponed as we had earmarked those games to take a look a few lads who have been working with us.

"There are a few good prospects and we will be looking at what they have to offer to see if they provide something we are currently missing in the squad. It's great that we have good numbers signed already but a few of those signed have availability issues during early parts of the season so we need the numbers.

"Last season we got caught a little light during the first six weeks of the season with various elements of unavailability so that was something we didn't want to affect us this season and we certainly have some good quality in strength and depth."
