Gordon Completes Trio Of New Signings For Gresley
Jermaine Gordon has become the third pre-season trialist to agree to join the club this week ahead of the new Midland Alliance campaign which kicks off on August 6th with a trip to Westfields.
The former Hinckley front man has impressed in several pre season appearances on trial as has winger Ashley Day who agreed to join the club after last week's friendly against Shepshed. Midfielder Jake Duffy who impressed in several games against Gresley over the past two seasons for East Midlands Counties clubs Bardon Hill and Thurnby Nirvana also put pen to paper to join the club this week after impressing in friendlies against Heanor Town and Derby County academy. All three new signings are due to feature in the clubs pre season trip to Bardon Hill this Saturday.

In addition to the latest new signings Adam Betteridge has this week also re-signed for another season whilst Jack Coulson returns after spending most of pre-season with the club. Coulson was with Gresley last season before joining Holbrook.

On the down side Jordi Gough's continuing ankle problem has limited him to just 15 minutes of preseason action whilst winger Olly Hancock has not featured since the opening friendly against Ilkeston due to a knee injury. Both players look unlikely to be fit in time for next week's league opener in Hereford.

Meanwhile manager Gary Norton hopes to speak further in the coming days to winger Marc Goodfellow in the hope of also adding the former Burton, Stoke, Bristol City and Swansea player to his options.

Commenting on how his squad was shaping up for the new campaign Norton said: "Apart from Brian Woodall, David Blenkinsopp and Danny Holmes we now have everyone from last season's title winning squad signed with the club for this season. Richard Hanslow and Jack Coulson who started last season with us have also returned. Those players who have left (Woodall, Blenkinsopp and Holmes) are big boots to fill quality wise but we have added some decent prospects in the positions they vacated in the squad with the addition of Jermaine, Jake and Ashley. We now feel we have really good competition in all areas of the pitch but we will continue to look at signing players who come available if we feel they will add something we haven't already got in our ranks."

On the coming season Norton added: "We are making the step up a level into the Alliance and whilst I'm confident that everyone who was with us in the East Midlands Counties league can make that step comfortably we will review things as we go to see how we stand as a squad. In our first seven league games we play five sides from last season's top eight and having also played last season's champions Coalville in pre-season we will have a good yardstick as to where we are at come the end of August."
