Simms swoop
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers are poised to make a cash offer for out-of-favour Burton Albion defender Nigel Simms.
Rovers boss Frank Northwood has renewed his interest in Simms after being rebuffed twice earlier in the season by Albion manager Neil Warnock.

When Northwood tried to sign Simms, Warnock slapped a £2,000 transfer fee on his head saying he had no intention of letting him leave Eaton Park.

But with Simms having spent nearly three months in the reserves Northwood is poised for another move.

“The last time I spoke to Burton Albion about Nigel they asked a totally unrealistic price to frighten us off but I’m still interested in talking business. I want Neil Warnock and his directors to know that we have some money to spend and would be willing to negotiate a small fee.”

Northwood has recently strengthened his defensive resources with the signing of Glen West from Tamworth and has plenty of talent in that area with Steve Dolby and Stuart Watkiss on the books.

But he is still keen to secure Simms’ signing and might well decide to use him in midfield.
