Gary Norton Completes His Marathon
I would like to thank all those connected with the club who sponsored me to run the 2009 London Marathon in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
It was a fantastic day and a truly amazing experience to be part of the event. Despite picking up an ankle injury the week before I was doing quite well up until just before the 20 mile point and looking good to beat my target time of 4.5 hours. However the dreaded cramp kicked in at this point and I ended up struggling round the last 6 miles or so, eventually completing the 26.2 miles in 5hrs 2 minutes. At this stage I don't know the exact amount raised as I'm awaiting a few sponsor forms back from family and friends but we estimate the amount raised will be over the £3000 target I set out to raise for the charity.
Included in the sponsorship I have received is a donation of £250 from the Gresley Rovers Supporters club and £100 from the UniBond Football league as well as many other generous individual donations from those connected with the club. My sincere thanks to all of you who sponsored me for this worthy cause.
