A New Track For Elvis

Elvis In Race Action At Uttoxeter

Elvis Gresley flew the flag for local football in an unusual curtain raiser to Sunday's (21st September) card at Uttoxeter racecourse.
Mascots mostly from the world of football raced against each other to rasie funds for Sunfield Special School which aims to improve the lives of children with severe and complex learning needs. Some of the Children were at the meeting to thank the mascots and raise funds themselves by collecting loose change from the race goers.

In the parade ring the announcer had to admit he had no form guide on the runners and after they had gone under starters orders Elvis Gresley was hampered by losing a boot. In the end the Hound finished a very creditable third with Billy the Badger of Stafford Rangers setting the early pace and winning at a canter. Each mascot was later presented with a certificate for their achievement even those who only just managed to finish the run which was the length of the spectators area.

The Gresley Chairman, Mark Harrison, was unable to get to the meeting but later passed on his congratulations, "I am delighted that Elvis Gresley finished third and if we can get him to do some work with our coaches then may be he'll win a race or two next season. I hope the players appreciate what he has achieved and it gives them inspiration during these difficult times."
