Moatmen aiming for top of class
Gresley Rovers are "returning to the community" with the launch of new awards recognising the contribution of young people to football.
Rovers chairman Mark Evans is to present the first of the annual awards at Ashby Grammar School on Wednesday with a similar venture to be launched at Swadlincote's Pingle School and others to follow.

Said Evans: "The motive is for Gresley Rovers to accept the fact that we are a community football club and we are returning to the community.

"We want to encourage young people to take part in sport and reward those who do for their contribution.

"Both Ashby Grammar and Pingle Schools have acknowledged that they have no such awards at present and we are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for pupils."

Evans will make the first of the awards at Ashby Grammar School's speech day on Wednesday with a date yet to be fixed for the Pingle award. Meanwhile, the Rovers chairman plans to make further approaches to other schools in the area.
