Gresley Rovers has been able to purchase the Moat Ground in Church Gresley following a grant from South Derbyshire District Council.
On Thursday 12 July, 2007 Cllr Mick Bale, the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council met the Gresley Rovers Chairman Mark Evans at the Moat Ground to celebrate this event and to support the work of Gresley Rovers in encouraging sport in the community. Local Councillors Cllr Trevor Southerd and Cllr Bob Southern who supported the club in their application were also there.

Said Cllr Bale: "Through the Council's Partnership Fund, a capital grant has been allocated to Gresley Rovers. Not only does the Club have a semi-professional football team, a reserve side and a youth team they also provide professional coaching for 13 junior teams. At the District Council we are committed to developing local communities and Gresley Rovers does this through sport and recreation."

Gresley Rovers Chairman Mark Evans said: "This is an important event in the history of Gresley Rovers Football Club. Gresley Rovers has developed one the largest junior football structures in the area, achieving the Football Association's Charter Standard. It is managed by enthusiastic local volunteers.

"Even though the club was founded in 1882 and has been at the Moat Ground for a hundred years, we have never been able to buy our own ground. The ground was rented from Mitchell and Butlers who offered us the opportunity to buy it. Without this grant from the Council, the club could not secure its future in the area."
